Gives new meaning to the phrase: "Seeing stars."

They showed their patriotism — and their love.

Katy Perry and John Mayer shared a July 4 hug. "Whose broad stripes & bright stars?" wrote Katy as she shared this shot on Instagram. (And we're all assuming that's Mayer. Page Six reported the two were spending the holiday in the Hamptons.)

Among the 1600+ comments on the shot were several saying, "Jaty is back!"

Katy also tweeted a shot of her patriotic nails.

Mayer, 35, meanwhile, played with the Roots at Philly's Fourth of July Jam.

And on Friday, he rocked the Today show as part of its summer concert series.

He didn't mention Katy, but when asked how "things are different now," he said, "Yeah, it's nice. It's as it's supposed to go. It's supposed to level out, you know. And it has. Leveled out at the right time. I'm the right age and the right soul. So I'm very happy."

Then when asked if his new Paper Doll was about a certain someone (it's rumored to be aimed at Taylor Swift) , he said, "Songwriters write songs because of people, about people. Anything someone else wrote is their reception of the song and I don't get involved in it. It's not my business."
